Ruth B. Howell

IRMO—Ruth Britt Howell passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018.The funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Saint Andrews Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210 with The Reverend Ronald“Dee” Vaughan officiating. Committal will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.The family will receive friends in the Atrium from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Mrs. Howell was born on December 1, 1924 in Wake County, NC.She grew up in Goldsboro, NC.Ruth was in the graduating class of 1942.She was the daughter of the late Carey Lawrence Britt and Lena Beaty Britt.She was very active in her church, taking her children “every time the doors opened”.She was also active in her community and much loved by her family and friends.Mrs. Howell enjoyed traveling with her husband, playing golf, bridge, yoga, cooking, gardening and bird watching. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Albert Franklin Howell; sisters, Dorothy B. Strickland, Margaret B. Pierce, Ruby Britt; brothers, Wm Louis Britt, Luther Milton Britt and Daniel McClain Britt. She is survived by her daughters; Patsy Conrad, Sheri Haymore (Clyde) and Meg Howell; five grandchildren, Joel Edge, Amy Lowrance, Carrie Wren, Franki and Skye Deckert; two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Andrew McLaurin. Memorials may be made to St. Andrews Baptist Church or the charity of choice.
