William (Bill) Shannon Hancock

CHAPIN – William (Bill) Shannon Hancock, Jr., 93, of Chapin entered into eternal rest Thursday, January 19, 2023. Born March 22, 1929, in Columbia, Bill was the son of the late William Shannon Hancock, Sr. and Jessie Mae Hair Hancock. He graduated from Columbia High School and served proudly in the US Navy Reserve during the Korean Conflict. He was a Master Mason for over 50 years. He retired from Bell South after working and making friends for over 35 years. Bill was a devoted member of Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church and the Covenant Sunday School Class. He attended church faithfully until the Covid epidemic and his failing health kept him from actively participating. He would continue to watch the Sunday service regularly via the internet, kept up with daily devotional readings and followed church activities through conversations with friends. Bill is survived by his daughter, Pamela Hancock Chapman (Tony); grandsons Shannon Anthony Chapman (Amanda), Joseph William Chapman (Michelle) and John Andrew Chapman. He loved to be around his great grandchildren, Lily, Lena, Henry, Harper, Riley and Sawyer. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Ruth Hammond Hancock, sister Sara Ann Hancock Oliver and son Joseph Shannon Hancock. Serving as pallbearers are Shannon (Tony) Chapman, Joseph Chapman, John Chapman, C. W. Bowman, Ron Reel and Dukes Hooker. The family is very grateful for the kind, passionate and professional service received from the doctors, nurses and staff at Lexington Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. The church address is 6952 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Services will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens at 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.
