Wayne C. Starnes

Wayne C. Starnes, a resident of Lexington Medical Center Extended Care, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024. He was 88 years old. Wayne was born in Lancaster County, South Carolina, to Walter E. and Odessa Courtney Starnes on November 24, 1935. Wayne was a graduate of Lancaster High School. He met his wife Marie one day when he stopped by her family’s home to ask for directions. A love story began. Wayne and Marie Starnes were married for 65 years. Wayne retired from Mitchell Distributing Company after 42 years of dedicated service. Wayne was a long-time member of Union United Methodist Church. Wayne enjoyed spending his spare time fishing, camping, and working on cars. He loved NHRA drag races, and Clemson football. Wayne encouraged his children to pursue their education. He loved his yellow labrador, Buddy. Wayne is survived by his son, W. Scott Starnes; daughter and son-in-law, Julie S. and Darrin Kahl; and his grandchildren, Kelsie Kahl, Chris Starnes, Dalton Kahl, and Landon Kahl. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Marie Hinton Starnes. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Truesdale, Ralph, Carter, and Ray, and his sisters, Evelyn and Bernice. Services will be on September 12, 2024. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 Service will be from 11:00-12:00 Memorials may be made in Wayne’s memory to the Humane Society of South Carolina.
