Wanda Stephens Powell

COLUMBIA—On Monday morning, February 2, 2015, Wanda Powell, 77, was peacefully called Home.Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Thomas Stephens and Catherine Anderson Stephens and wife of the late Thomas Wesley Powell.She was a graduate of Ursuline High School in Columbia, which is now Cardinal-Newman, and a graduate of Columbia Jr. Business College. Wanda retired from the South Carolina Tax Commission, now known as the South Carolina Department of Revenue.Her favorite moments were filled by spending time with her family, reading, cooking, shopping and visiting Charleston.She was a loving sister, mother and grandmother. A memorial service for Wanda will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212, Reverend Mark Bredholt will officiate.Entombment will follow in the Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home. Surviving are her daughter, Tracy Lane Powell Roosen of Prosperity; son, Shawn Stephen Powell and his wife, Sara of Charleston; four beautiful grandchildren, George-Hunter Roosen, Mason Roosen, Grace Powell and Cole Powell; brother, William Harry Stephens (Linda) of Daytona, FL.She was preceded in death by her brother, Wilbur Thomas Stephens. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
