Tony "Possum" Alewine

COLUMBIA—A Celebration of Life for Tony “Possum” Alewine, 64, of Columbia, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Lake Murray Baptist Church, 1001 US 378, Lexington, SC 29072. Reverend Butch Powell will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Burnside, Rusty Mustard, Danny Young, Alton Burnett, Chuck Beaty, Kelly Coker, Willie Rawl, Mickey Bishop, Bobby McCord, Dudley Britt, Windy Currie, and Jimmy Hilliard. Visitation will be held from 9- 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Mr. Alewine, beloved husband of Sonya Livingston Alewine, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2015.Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Furman I. Alewine and Ruth Moseley Alewine. He was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church.Tony lettered in four sports at Lower Richland High School and was a proud member of the 1967 State Champion football team coached by Mooney Player. He was owner and operator of his own Residential Real Estate Appraisal Company.Tony grew up in the Olympia Area of Columbia and was proud to be called a “Lint Head”. Tony enjoyed Clemson sports, especially football and tail-gating with his two sons and many friends. He played in several Pool “Billiards” leagues in Columbia and was an avid golfer. Surviving in addition to his wife, Sonya L. Alewine of Columbia; sons, Jason Alewine (Rhonda) of Pendleton and Brad Alewine (Renee) of Lexington; granddaughter, Ashley Benson; two great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Bensonand Connor Benson; sister, Margaret Alewine Taylor (Nelson) of Columbia; mother and father-in-law, Danny and Jennie Livingston of Ft. Motte; sister-in-love, Polly Paton of Columbia; sister-in-law, Melissa Kelly of West Columbia; brother-in-law, Danny Livingston of Columbia; nephew, Ty Duncan Kelly; mother of his children, Frances S. Alewine of Columbia; numerous nieces and nephews; along with pets Molly and Callie Baker.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Furman Wayne Alewine.
