Thomas McLemore IRMO—Thomas McLemore was born December 6, 1939, in Brooklyn, NY to Margaret McCarthy and Preston and Chloe McLemore.He is survived by his brother, Terry McLemore, of Baton Rouge, LA. Tom is also survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Fay McLemore; 4 daughters: Pam Palmgreen; Barbara Roark; Mary Stone; and Karen Hamrick.He was a beloved grandfather of 11 and proud great-grandfather of 6. Tom is a veteran of the Vietnam War wherein he served two tours.He earned several medals during his service, including, but not limited to, The National Defense Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal; The Meritorious Unit Citation; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Bronze Star; Drill Sergeant Badge; Army Service Ribbon; and Overseas Service (4th Award). During his 24 years of service, he served with distinction in the Army 5th Special Forces Group, as well as the 25th Infantry Division, and a Drill Sergeant at Fort Jackson, SC.He received many commendations for his dedication and bravery.The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as his family and friends will attest. After serving his country, he worked for 23 years with Michelin Tire Corporation, Lexington, SC, before retiring in 2004.He also served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Irmo from 2007 through 2018.Tom enjoyed volunteering his time to the Special Forces Association to give back to the civilian and military community.This volunteer service assisted with preserving military history and worked with young individuals fostering the next generation. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 3:00-5:00 p.m.at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.Tom will be interred in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road,Columbia, SC 29229, on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with military honors.
