Thomas Franklin “Tommy” Moody, Jr., 72, of Columbia passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. Born in Columbia on July 28, 1951, Tommy was the son of Thomas Franklin Moody, Sr. and Margaret Browder Moody. Tommy is survived by his daughters Kasey Elizabeth Moody of Columbia and Jamie Allyson Moody (Gabriel Hargett), grandsons Weston DeVan Hargett and Anderson Thomas Hargett of Asheville, NC, his sister Linda Moody of Columbia, and his friend and the mother of his children, Jan Moody of Columbia. He is also survived by his nephew Bobby Long (Sarah) and their children Claire and Colleen Long of Anderson, SC and his close friend Bonnie Boland. Tommy was predeceased by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Bob Long. Tommy was a multi-sport standout at AC Flora High School and was a proud graduate of the class of 1969. Because of his lifelong love for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, he joined the baseball team as a walk on, eventually earning a scholarship and graduating with a B.A. in Business Administration. Tommy became a sales representative for General Mills and for the past 23 years lived out his childhood dream of broadcasting for Gamecock Baseball. He became a media sensation on 107.5 “The Game,” hosting multiple shows and using his voice to touch many lives throughout the community. His love for sports could not compare to his love for his family. He was happiest spending time with his two daughters and his grandsons, who were his pride and joy. Tommy shared his passion for music, the beach, tailgating and endless trivia with his many beloved friends. Just last year, he checked off one of his “bucket list” trips with his daughters to the National Baseball Hall of Fame induction in Cooperstown, NY. Tommy impacted many lives through coaching, his love of sports, his devotion to his friends and his unwavering faith in Christ.
