COLUMBIA—Theodore “Ted” Sherwin Huneycutt, 84, of Columbia, died on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 as he wished, at home and with family by his side.He had been suffering from a long term illness over the past year.His devotion to his family and his firm belief in god supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Ted was born to the late Ralph and Esther Huneycutt, a farmer and a homemaker respectively, in Stanfield, NC on November 27, 1931.He graduated from Stanfield High School in 1950, where he found his love for sports, more specifically basketball. After graduation from high school, he served his country as an aviation electronics specialist for the United States Navy. After he served in the Navy he took a position with Pitney Bowes, from where he eventually retired after 35 years. He attended college in the evening, earning his Associate Degree from Robinson Business College.Ted was an extremely dedicated employee who had a great passion for leading others and helping out in all areas of the company. Ted married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Carolyn Love Huneycutt, on September 8, 1951 in Lancaster, SC.Shortly after they started their family and had 3 children.Ted had many hobbies, included golf and working in his yard.He took great pride in the appearance of his yard, which won him numerous “Yard of the Month” awards.He had such a great love of the outdoors that started while earning his Eagle Scout designation.Ted served as Treasurer for the Optimist Club in Atlanta, Georgia.He was a long-time member of Shandon Baptist Church and also a devoted member of the McDonalds “Breakfast Club.”He always had a smile and loved to make others laugh. Ted is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children, Janet Winders, Steve Huneycutt (Michelle) and Pam Wilkerson (Kenneth); his grandchildren, Kristin Simpson (Travis), Wesley Wilkerson, Tommy Huneycutt, Janna Huneycutt and Melody Huneycutt; and his great granddaughters, Emory, Kaitlyn and Jade; sister, Naomi Clontz. Ted was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry and Alan Huneycutt. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC29212, with Reverend Jerry Long officiating. Entombment will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.The family will greet friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the funeral home.
