The Lord Jesus Christ called the Reverend Dr. Paul David Reynolds, Sr. to his eternal home on Monday, February 5, 2024. The eldest of three children, “Dave” was born in Atlanta, GA, to John Paul and Elsie Schiffner Reynolds on September 14, 1935. Dave met the love of his life, Julia Wynelle Aikens, while attending Georgia State University. Around this time, he received his call into the ministry. Dave and Wynelle were married on November 4, 1960. Following his graduation in 1965, Dave attended Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA while simultaneously serving the Presbyterian Church in Homer, GA, and earned his Master of Divinity in 1969. Soon after graduation and ordination into the Presbyterian Church (US), the family moved to Johnson City, TN, where Dave served at First Presbyterian Church. In 1973, Dave was called to Winter Park Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, NC. During this time, Dave attended Union Presbyterian Seminary, where he earned his Doctor of Ministry. He would then be called to pastor additional churches: Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, Columbia, SC (1978-1988), Highland Presbyterian Church, Largo, FL (1988-1993), and Central Presbyterian Church, Huntsville, AL (1993-2001). Dave was known for his love of his family, his kindness as a pastor, his preaching, and his commitment to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His sermons were not only inspiring but educational for those who heard him. An evangelist at heart, Dave intentionally incorporated the gospel message of salvation into many sermons. One of his greatest joys was leading one of the lost to the Lord. He was a devoted and loving husband, and a very affectionate father and grandfather. He never hesitated to demonstrate his love, affection, and praise to his family. When he was not with his family or serving the church, Dave loved the game of golf, achieving four holes-in-one. He was also an avid cartoon artist for his children and a painter of landscapes. Dave loved dancing as well and was often observed doing the jitterbug at family celebrations. He was a great friend to his colleagues in ministry and was known for his generous encouragement to them and to others. With a keen sense of humor, Dave loved a good joke and to laugh heartily. A loving husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Dave was preceded into heaven by his brother, John William “Billy” Reynolds, and is survived by his wife, Wynelle; his sister, Gloria Gayle Rouse; his children, Julia Watson (Ron), Susan Reynolds, Paul D. Reynolds, Jr. (Amy), and Daniel Reynolds; his five grandchildren, Davis Watson, III (Meg), Mary Ruth Harding (Greg), Tripp Reynolds, Samuel Reynolds, and Marina Reynolds; his two great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. A Funeral service for Rev. Dr. Reynolds will be held on February 10, 2024, at Temples-Halloran Funeral Home with a visitation for the family at 10:00 am, followed by a service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made in Dave’s memory to either Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church, Columbia, SC (sapc.net) or Samaritan’s Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org).
