Terry D. Cann

A memorial service for Terry D. Cann, 75 of Lexington, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2022, in the Chapel of Temples-Halloran Funeral Home. The Reverend Hope Morris will preside. The Cann family will receive family and friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. A private inurnment will take place at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at a future date. Terry was born in Greenwood, SC on November 4, 1946, and passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on October 17, 2022. Terry was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Lander College class of 1968 where he served as the student body president. Upon graduation, Terry served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After leaving the Navy, Terry earned his Masters in Education from the University of South Carolina. He worked for Richland School District Two, where he helped create the Child Development Program for the district. He was then employed by the SC Department of Education. Later, he returned to Richland School District Two, where he taught for the social studies department at Richland Northeast High School. He loved his students and co-workers with whom he worked throughout the years and also enjoyed being in musicals performed by the arts department. Terry enjoyed spending time with his family and his church. He had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing in the choirs at College Place UMC and Faith UMC. Terry was also known for his great sense of humor, and his love for animals and the outdoors. He was predeceased by his parents, Harvey D. and Plumer Cann, and siblings, Jane Cann Freeland (Charles) and John McKinney Cann. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Rollins Cann; daughters, Edie Cann Burritt (Steven), and Mary Ashley Rodriguez (Juan); son, David R. Cann (Blaire); grandchildren, Kate and Sarah Jane Burritt, Rosie, Joseph, and Luke Rodriguez and Mary Carter Cann. Other family members include; in-laws, Jean Cann, Henry Rollins (Donna), and Ann Bundrick (Don) in addition to many nieces and nephews, and his constant companion, his dog Dexter. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to Faith United Methodist Church in Lexington or Pawmetto Lifeline.
