Sybil Sturkie Anderson went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 9, 2021.The funeral service for Sybil will be held at Temples Halloran Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Bill Haselden and Reverend Keith Lorick will officiate. The family will greet friends at 10 am the day of service. Burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. She was born in West Columbia on January 3, 1936, to Rev. Daniel O. Sturkie and Lucy Mae Ellis Sturkie. Sybil was married to the love of her life, Venson L. Anderson for 61 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and caregiver for her husband for the past 16 years of his life after he had a massive stroke. His condition did not stop her from taking him places, especially to church on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. She was known as the lady who pushed her husband in his wheelchair everywhere. Sybil graduated from Brookland Cayce High School. She attended the University of South Carolina and was an avid Gamecock fan. She was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church, Irmo, SC, where she sang in the choir for 47 years until she had to resign due to health problems. She said she was hoping to be in the Heavenly Choir. She was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class, Oasis Club, Joy Club and Anna’s Tea, a club for widows (all at Riverland Hills Baptist Church). Sybil was retired from C.W. Haynes and Co. and also had worked as an independent mortgage broker. She was co-owner of SAV Marketing Company. She taught mortgage banking classes at Shaw Tech in Sumter, SC for a couple of years. She was also a former member of Columbia Professional Women’s Club and a former member of Sumter Board of Realtors. Sybil enjoyed cooking and taking food to people who were sick. Everybody loved her cakes! We think she tried every one of Paula Deen’s published cake recipes. In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her beautiful daughter, Jenny Lynn Griffin Coscia in July, 2009, and by her parents. She is survived by a son, Timothy Anderson of Columbia; grandsons, Scott Griffin (Debbie) of Lexington, Jeff Griffin of West Columbia, and Josh Griffin (Whitney) of Lexington; great-grandchildren, Amber Griffin, Cameron Griffin and Peyton Griffin; son-in-law, Jeff Coscia; and a very special sister, Jackie Lorick. “I don’t expect a big mansion in Heaven. A little shack on the beach will do. My prayer has always been that my family would praise the Lord by worshipping together in church on Sundays and take an active part in the church. I will be waiting to meet you all in Heaven. God is our eternal judge: listen and obey.”
