Columbia—A Celebration of Life for Sumie F. DeLaughter, 93, of Columbia will be held at 12 noon Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.Reverend Dr. Mark Bredholt will officiate.Burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens.The family will greet friends from 11-12 noon in the Mausoleum Chapel. Sumie was born on October 16, 1926, in Kumamoto, Japan, to the late Zenzo and Toyono Fukushima.She passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.See loved to cook, read and watch Sumo-Wrestling on TV.Sumie moved to the United States in 1964 with her husband, Harry while serving in the US Air Force.They moved to Columbia, SC after Harry retired from US Air Force. Surviving are her son, George DeLaughter and Duke DeLaughter; daughter, Gayle DeLaughter Moore (James); 3 sisters; grandson, Taven DeLaughter.She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Harry Leo DeLaughter, brother, Meiji Fukushima.
