Stephanie Stirrat Gerrald

November 8, 1933 — April 27, 2017

Stephanie Stirrat Gerrald went home to glory on April 27, 2017. Born in New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Layton Dennis Stirrat and Naomi Belle Hardman Stirrat. She was a faithful member of St. Andrews Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing with the senior adult choir, the Joy Singers. Stephanie loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and serving others. She was a graduate of the South Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, and graduated valedictorian of the class of 1954. She worked at the Baptist Hospital for 16 years while raising her family. During her tenure, she received The Nurse of the Year Award, 1983, as testament to her dedication to her patients. For many years, she had a passion for organizing the annual Nurses Alumnae Reunion. Stephanie’s goal was to serve the Lord with her talents, and one was ministering to church shut-ins and others with her card ministry. She also loved serving as a hospice volunteer, and served faithfully for 31 years with Palmetto Baptist Hospice. Stephanie was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, David Leon Gerrald. Together Leon and Stephanie lovingly raised 5 children – David (Dessie) Gerrald, Suzanne Gerrald Voreis (Larry), Kathy Gerrald Harrington (Ricky), Margaret Gerrald Smith and Robert (Jean) Gerrald. She was blessed with six grandchildren – Martin (Allison) Gerrald, Marshall Gerrald, Matthew Harrington, Courtney Harrington Naverson (Jordan), Kelly Smith, and Jake Smith; and one great-grandchild, Adaelyn Gerrald. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to the South Carolina Baptist Hospital (SCBH) Nurses’ Alumnae Scholarship Fund. Mail donations to: Nurses Alumnae, In Care Of: Suzanne Gerrald Voreis, 204 Angie Dr., Taylors, SC29687.
