Shirley West Vaughan

Irmo—Shirley West Vaughan, wife of the late William L. Vaughan, of Chester, Virginia.She was born February 21, 1930, and passed away on February 3, 2021.Survived by her 4 children, William Lee Vaughan, Jr. (Jennie) of Ponte Vedra, FL; Steven L. Vaughan (Beverlee); Jenny Vaughan Giannaros (Jim) of Columbia, SC, and Connie Vaughan Kaplan (Will) of Glendale, CA.She has one surviving sister, Mary West Gant of La Crescenta, CA, and many grandchildren, Lionel, Les, Marsha, Ashley, Stephanie, Tori, Sara, and Daniel who also gave her many blessings with children of their own. All of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very close to her and she enjoyed them immensely.She also loved visiting California to see her family and talked frequently about missing visits there. In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed being outside bird-watching and gardening.She was an avid reader and very accomplished at cross stitch.And always up for a good game of cards. She was a retiree of Bell South Telephone Company in Petersburg, VA and after the passing of her husband in 1997, moved to Columbia to be near her children there.She built a patio home in Irmo, SC where she was very content and surrounded by great friends, neighbors, and family for 20 years. She suffered from diabetes and we ask that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers.
