Sharon Skenes Greene

Sharon Skenes Greene, 71, of Irmo, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023. She was born on January 19, 1952, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Mason Herbert “Jack” Skenes and Florence Tucker Skenes. Sharon was a 1970 graduate of Columbia High School where she played basketball during her Freshman and Sophomore years. She was an underwriter in the Construction Loan Department at TD Bank. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and a high school youth leader. Sharon was a member and secretary of the Hope and Faith Circle of the United Methodist Women at Salem UMC. She was a member of the Bill Childs Journey Sunday School Class; she played hand bells; and she also was a director of the acolytes. Sharon was a member of the Columbia Chapter Motorcycle Club and the Order of the Amaranth. Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Walter Garfield Greene; her daughters, Ashley Greene Urso (Jonathan Lambert) and Brittney Michelle Watkins (Toby); her sister, Tracy Shackelford (Jay); and her brother, Michael Staples. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Hayden, Brice, Tanner, and Margaret. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Salem United Methodist Church. The Reverend Jeff Childress and the Reverend Bill Childs will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church on Saturday.
