CHAPIN—Funeral services for Sara Ann Pope, 69, of Chapin will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1715 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC 29210. Burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.The Reverend Carol Byrd will be officiating.The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Temples Halloran Funeral Home is assisting the family. Sara Ann Pope, beloved wife of F. Earle Pope, III passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016.Born in Allendale, SC, she was the daughter of the late Barnie Smith and Sarah Williams Smith. She graduated from Allendale/Fairfax High School where she was a basketball player, cheerleader, and member of the track team. She was a graduate of USC with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a member of USC Alumni Association, The Gamecock Club and Carolina Dugout Club.She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church since 1968, where she served on the Child Development committee and volunteered with Mr. B’s Café.Sara Ann was a retired school teacher from Herbert A. Wood Elementary School. During her career, she was voted Teacher of the Year and earned numerous awards for the Environmental Club that she founded. She was a member of the National Teachers Association and ADK Sorority. Not a day went by that she wasn't cooking something up in the kitchen, traveling the world, shopping until she dropped, fishing, having a lake day or attending a USC sporting event. Most of these activities were done with her grandkids. They were the light of her life. She was the best grandma anyone could have ever asked for and we wouldn't trade her for the world. We will miss you dearly Na-Na, rest peacefully in heaven! Surviving in addition to her husband of 50 years, F. Earle Pope III of Chapin; daughter, Michele Beatty (Alan) of Chapin; son, Frank E. Pope IV (Debra) of Irmo; grandchildren, Trad Beatty, Sarah Joyce Beatty, Ashlyn Beatty and Briar Pope; brother, Billy Frank Smith (Helen) of Chapin. The family would like to thank Dr Robert Smith, Nicole Hendry, and Gwen Grant of SCOA. We truly appreciate your guidance and support during her journey.
