Sara “Jo” Hughes Bacon, 88 years old, widow of George M. Bacon, went to her heavenly home on October 1, 2021. She was born in Hemingway, SC on May 11, 1933, the daughter of Sally and Wally Hughes. She is survived by her step-son, Steve Bacon of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; daughter, Phyllis Bacon Fuqua (Scott) of Edisto Island, SC; step-daughter, Sue B. Turner of Columbus, Georgia; daughter, Meri Lisa Bacon of Columbia, SC; grandson, Christopher Anthony Bacon, and great-grandson, Danny Anthony Bacon both of Rock Hill, SC, and many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great grandchild. She is predeceased by her son, Phillip Anthony Bacon. Jo loved sports. She played on the girl’s basketball team at Indiantown High School, organized women’s softball in Columbia, SC, and coached girls’ softball for many years at North Trenholm Baptist Church. The neighborhood children deemed her the “most fun mom” in the neighborhood. She was one of the first members of Eastwood Baptist Church. She requested no funeral services due to the pandemic but requested that donations be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children. She is entombed at Bush River Memorial Gardens in Columbia, SC.
