Ruth L. Byrd

A graveside service for Ruth L. Byrd, 96, will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022, at Bush River Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Phil Stone will officiate.Mrs. Byrd was born on August 25, 1925, in Kershaw, SC to the late Ward and Sallie Catoe Byrd.She was a faithful member of St. Andrews Baptist Church, where she loved singing with the Joy Singers, participating in Sunday School, other activities of the church, and working in the library.She was also known as the “Cookie Lady” for her famous fruit cake cookies. Mrs. Byrd enjoyed spending time with family and friends.She loved taking trips to the mountains, beach, and Nebraska to visit her sister.She was a happy person who made others want to be around her.She believed that “Laughter is the best medicine.” Surviving are her three daughters, Judy Mills (Mike) of Columbia, Sherry Stone (Phil), New Hill, NC, and Linda Mullinax (Tommy), Anderson, SC; 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Sue Bouza, Omaha, NE; brother-in-law, JW Vison, Camden, SC; and her beloved dog, Sophie.She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Byrd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrews Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210.
