COLUMBIA—Rubin Stuart Stout a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, and retired State of SC employee died on Thursday, August 11, 2016, in Mount Pleasant, SC.He was 95 years old.Rubin Stout was born on November 16, 1920, in Shouns, TN. He joined the Army just months after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor at the age of 19.He served his country in the Pacific Theater in World War II, in Japan during the peacetime occupation following WWII, in Korea during the Korean Conflict, and in Thule, Greenland and stateside post-Korean Conflict. He retired from the military in 1964.He and his family then moved to Columbia, SC where he took a position with the State of South Carolina.He retired in 1980.In 2010, he moved to Franke At Seaside in Mount Pleasant, SC where he made many close friends.He was the grandson of a Baptist minister, joined Bethel Baptist Church in Pandora, TN at the age of 12, attended St. Andrews Baptist Church in Columbia, SC for years, and most recently attended Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, SC. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Jolene Payne Stout, and three siblings Willard Stout, Bert Stout, and Vera Jordan.Survivors include two sons, Stuart Payne Stout (Wanda) of Columbia, SC, and Willard Ray Stout (Sugie) of Mount Pleasant, SC; one daughter, Rebecca Stout Brown (Robert) of Atlanta, GA; and three sisters: Mary Alice Johnson (Joe) of Nashville, TN, Helen Walsh of Columbia, SC, and Ann Greer of Mountain City, TN.Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive him.Grandchildren: Dayton Stout Velarde (Raul), Blaine Hendrick Stout, Morgan Stuart Stout, Logan Stout Chandler (Mark), Willard Daniel Stout, Rachel McCarley Brown, and Virginia Stuart Brown. Great-grandchildren:Jack Guillermo Velarde, Hendrick Rubin Velarde, Elizabeth Jolene Chandler and Peter Craig Chandler. Funeral service for Rubin S. Stout, 95, of Columbia, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2016 at St. Andrews Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210, burial will follow in Dutch Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, 3433 Dreher Shoals Road, Irmo, SC 29063 with full military honors. Officiating will be Dr. Ronald D. “Dee” Vaughan and Reverend Fred DeFoor.The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
