Chapin—A funeral service for Rogenia Smith Hightower, 73, of Chapin will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapin Baptist Church, 950 Old Lexington Hwy., Chapin, SC 29036.Reverend Michael Hull and Reverend Kyle Huntsinger will officiate.Burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.The family will greet friends before the service from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the church. Rogenia “Genie” was born in Greenville, SC on November 3, 1947, to the late Roger Owen Smith and Thelma Beard Smith.She passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021.She was a member of Chapin Baptist Church.Rogenia was the first May Queen in 1966 at USC Union. Rogenia worked for JB White, now known as Belk. She was also a substitute teacher for Chapin Elementary School, a Cub Scout, and Girl Scout Leader as well as an Explorer Post Leader. Many of her Cub Scouts went on to be Boy Scouts with many of them earning their Eagle Scout Rank. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Daniel “Pat” Patrick Hightower; son, Joseph Eugene Hightower (Jennifer) and daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Hightower; three grandchildren, Caden J. Hightower, Harper G. Hightower, and Wyatt W. M. Hightower; three sisters, Peggy S. Ridgeway, Pamela S. Cool (Lonnie English), and Deborah S. Giesen.She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers-in-law, Miles C. Ridgeway and Thomas V. Giesen. Memorials may be made to Chapin Baptist Church, PO Box 640, Chapin, SC 29036.
