Robert B. Ailes,

Chapin, SC - Bobby died on the evening of December 25, 2016 in peace at his home at the young age of 89 surrounded by his family.The son of Robert B. Ailes and Sudella Schumpert Ailes, he was born on October 27, 1927. He was a graduate of Columbia High School and attended the University of South Carolina.He served in World War II in the Pacific Theatre.He was a charter member of St. Marks Methodist Church.Bobby founded several mercantile and real estate businesses to include the Ailes Market on Beltline Boulevard in Columbia, SC.He had many friends and liked to reflect on the many journeys in his life that he was able to experience.He loved spending time with his family. Survived by his sister, Elsie Draffin of Cashiers, NC; his sons, Robert B. Ailes, Jr. of Chapin, SC and Thomas G. Ailes of Pelion, SC and his grandchildren, Melynda Ailes Wehunt of Lexington, SC, Dustin Thomas Ailes of Columbia, SC and Katheryn Lynn Ailes of Pelion, SC and many great grandchildren.Predeceased by Jacqueline Ellis Ailes, his beloved wife of 53 years. The family would like to extend many thanks the friendly, caring staff at South Carolina Oncology Associates and Tri-County Home Health and Hospice. A private ceremony will be held at his home.A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
