A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard J. Murphy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 8, 2021, at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, 120 Marydale Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.The interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The pallbearers serving the Murphy Family are Tony Spallina, Rick Tandy, Marque Collins, Colton Beasley, Jeison Diaz, and Robert Willard. Richard was born in Rochester, NY on January 24, 1945, and passed away at Lexington Medical Center on February 27, 2021.He was the son of the late Joseph Murphy and Johanna Einenkel Murphy. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War.Mr. Murphy was also a long-time member of the V.F.W. He was a family man who enjoyed spending time at the beach, going to concerts, and watching his football team, the South Carolina Gamecocks. Survivors include a loving wife of 52 years, Marlene Spallina Murphy; daughter, Kelly Hoyt (Marque); son, Michael Murphy (Jennifer); grandchildren, Ashley (Colton), Samantha (Jeison), and Jayson Murphy; sisters, Joanne Wegman (William) and Nancy Devey (Terry); brother-in-law, Tony Spallina (Vanessa); sister-in-law, Darlene Giles (Gary) and Linda Tandy (Richard).
