A Private Entombment for Reverend Edwin S. “Ed” Walker III will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, 29212. The Reverend Joshua Knott of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church will officiate. The Memorial Service to Celebrate Ed’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 5637 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. A reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Reverend Walker was born on September 12, 1928, in Cumberland County, VA to the late Edwin S. Walker, Jr. and Thea Boyd Womack Walker. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 7, 2022, at Lexington Medical Center. Ed Walker is a graduate of Columbia International University and did additional studies at Wheaton Graduate School and Université d'État d'Haïti. He served as pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church in Lexington, VA, from 1952-1956. From 1956 to 2003 he served with World Team, a missionary agency. From 1956 to 1979 he ministered in Haiti during which time he taught at Institut Biblique Lumiere and then directed the Radio Lumiere, a network of radio stations. During his residence in Haiti, he served on the Central Committee of the Haitian Red Cross, as President of the Board of the Pedodontic Foundation, and as a member of the Curriculum Committee of the National Department of Education. He then served World Team in the USA as Minister of Missions, US Director, and then as an in-house consultant. He also served on the Boards of Directors of World Team, USA, International, and Associates; The National Institute for Learning Development; and the Hispanic Educational Association. Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Mary F. Walker; daughters, Mary Anne Rudy (Mike), and Sara E. Walker; sons, E. Stuart Walker (Susan), David L.Walker, and Thomas N. Walker (Beth); grandchildren, Anne “Sorensen”, Lindsay “Berry”, Scott Bourne, Jason, Ben, Andrea “Nussbaum”, Jonathan, Susanna Rudy, David, Virginia, Elizabeth Walker, and Madison Walker; 20 great-grandchildren.
