Retha C. Dickens

COLUMBIA—Retha C. Dickens, 91 of Columbia, left this world to enter the gates of heaven on December 28, 2015.She was born in 1924 in rural Horry County, SC where as a child she grew up and worked the farm with her 6 brothers and sisters. After graduating from Aynor High School, Retha packed all of her belongings in a paste board suitcase to begin her working career in Bennettsville SC. In Bennettsville she met her future husband, Walter A Dickens and they married in 1952.Walter predeceased her in 2001. Retha is survived by a son, Randy (Nancy) of Columbia, many grandchildren, and great grandchildren.No one loved family better than D-Mama and her quick wit and tenacity will be missed by all who knew her. She was a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church. A graveside service of the Resurrection will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2016 in Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212, with the Reverend Jody Flowers officiating.Temples Halloran Funeral Home is assisting the family.
