COLUMBIA—A Mass of Christian Burial for Pedro Perez, 87, of Columbia, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014, at Saint Michaels on Fort Jackson (Main Post Chapel), 4580 Seales Avenue, Columbia, SC 29207.Father Joseph Vieira and Pastor Doyle Roberts will officiate.Burial with military honors will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens.The family will greet friends on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, for Rosary at 6:00 p.m. followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Mr. Perez, beloved husband of 60 years to the late Virginia Perez, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014.He was born in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, and was a son of the late Elauterio Vasquez and Juana Perez-Ortiz.He proudly served his country in the United States Army for 24 years. He was stationed in Korea, Okinawa and Vietnam.Mr. Perez was awarded the Good Conduct Medal Silver Class w/ 1 Loop and the Army Commendation Medal. Surviving are his daughters, Maria Virginia Perez and Angie Perez both of Columbia; sons, Pedro “Pete” Perez of Columbia and Nelson Perez-Otero and his wife, Donna of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren, David Perez, Melissa Gillis (Shane), Heather Gales (Donnie) and Philip Perez-Williams; great-grandchildren, Kristi Perez, Carlin and Sam Gillis; his beloved family pet, Fergie Perez; as well as a number of brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
