Pauline M. Simmons

December 12, 1938 — June 24, 2022

Pauline M. "Polly" Simmons, 83, of Columbia, died peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2022. A graveside service for Polly will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Born December 12, 1938, in Clinton, SC, to the late Charles B. and Gussie M. Powers, Polly made a lasting impact on every life she touched. Known to many as "Ms. Polly" or "Memaw", she found pure happiness in doing things that she loved the most: an arrowhead and fossil hunting, surf fishing, gardening, antique and thrift store shopping, walking the beach, and Christmastime. Her passion for these were only surpassed by the immeasurable love she had for her family; also to whom she showed unending patience, understanding, forgiveness, and devotion. Her life was exemplified by loyalty and faithfulness, setting in front of others how to live selflessly, love unconditionally, give generously, and remain humble throughout life's greatest moments. She exuded compassion and strength when protecting her children, comforting her grandchildren, and teaching them all how to love and to be loved in and through all things, good and bad. Great was her adoration for her great-grandchildren, both her dependability and support are given to her family and friends, and her benevolence to the communities in which she lived. Her acts of pure kindness and generosity knew no bounds, especially when she was taking care of and providing for children. To everyone who passed through the doors of the Sunshine Barn Daycare, "Ms. Polly" will always be known as a diligent, kind, and gentle caregiver with a genuine passion for children. Polly was the greatest comforter, helper, and supporter of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was and is their angel. Polly's family, friends, and acquaintances will always tell of a petite woman with a firm set of morals, a sense of humor, and a sweet spirit. The magnitude of her goodness and love will go unmatched by any other in this lifetime, but it will never be forgotten by those who have been blessed to experience it firsthand. Her legacy and memories will continue to bring comfort and joy to everyone fortunate enough to have been placed in her path. She will be greatly missed but remembered in all things. Polly is survived by a son, Kirk Simmons; daughters, Terri Martin (Rudy) and Tracy Simmons; grandchildren, Brandi Loner, Stephanie Simmons, Tanner, and Carly Chavis, Brady Bankhead, Jarrett Chavis, Jesse Sharpe, and Casey Chavis. Also surviving are 7 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William B. Simmons, son, Mark A. Simmons, and daughter, Toni S. Chavis. Memorials may be made to Pawmetto Lifeline, 1275 Bower Parkway, Columbia, SC 29212.
