COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Paul R. Johnston, Sr., will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC29212.Pastor Fed Suhr will officiate.Entombment will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.The family will greet friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Johnston passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2014.He was the son of the late Frank H. Johnston and Elodie Fink Johnston.He was member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church for over 20 years.Mr. Johnston and his wife, Peggy were residents since 1981, formerly of Warren, PA.He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII as a Signal Man. He earned the Victory Medal, the American Campaign medal, Philippine Liberations medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.He retired from Bell Penn and worked for 12 years with Southern Bell. He was a member of Lutheran Men, Telephone Pioneers and the Lions Club. Surviving are his beloved wife of 68 years, Peggy R. Johnston of Columbia; daughters, Patti Jo Grove (Denny) and Laurie McGraw all of Columbia; sons, Jeff Johnston (Ginger) of Lexington and Paul R. Johnston, Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Priscilla Erickson (Jack) of Chapin; grandchildren, Jodi Grove, Michelle Grove, Lindsay Carter, Todd Johnston and Hannah Johnston; one great-grandchild, Jordan Stierle.Paul was preceded in death by three brothers, David, Leonard and Laird; great grandchild, Jessica and son-in-law, Bill McGraw.
