Paul M. Jefferson

September 22, 1962 — August 13, 2022

Paul Manning Jefferson, a devoted husband, father, son, and brother passed away on Saturday, August 13 at his home in Irmo, S.C. with family by his side. Paul was 59 years old.

Born in Walterboro, S.C. on September 22, 1962, Paul is the son of Vivian Manning Jefferson and the late George William Jefferson.  Paul was a graduate of St. Peter’s Catholic School, Irmo High School, and the University of South Carolina.  He met his wife, Annie, through playing USTA Tennis, and they married in 1994. Paul worked for 33 years with the state of South Carolina as a Workers’ Compensation Investigator and recently retired.  Paul was a longtime active member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church where he played church softball and basketball. He also continued to play on a USTA tennis team for many years.  Paul was very involved in his daughters’ lives and coached their t-ball, basketball, and soccer teams.  In addition to coaching, he participated in the annual Nutcracker production at Town Theatre with his daughter, Hannah. He cheered Hannah on at all her volleyball games at Dutch Fork High School and Spartanburg Methodist College. He also attended his daughter Rianna’s many horseback riding competitions at Lander University through IHSA. He loved his daughters dearly and was always there to support them.

Paul will be remembered for his fun sense of humor and willingness to help his family with anything they needed. When his daughters and their many cousins were younger, he was always goofing around with them producing much laughter. He played the Grinch character at his work Christmas party and for his sister’s 2 nd grade students. He was an avid Gamecock fan and loved watching sports with his family! You could often find Paul wearing one of his many Gamecock shirts.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Annie; daughters, Hannah E. Jefferson and Rianna L. Jefferson; his mother, Vivian M. Jefferson; sister, Claire Taylor (Doug); brothers, Mark Jefferson (Kim), and Chris Jefferson (Seana); as well as many nieces and nephews.  His beloved cat, Tootie, and Grand-dog, Gus, will also miss Paul. Mr. Jefferson was preceded in death by his father, George William Jefferson.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Paul will be held at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, 120 Marydale Lane, Columbia, S.C. 29210 at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022.  The Jefferson family will receive friends in the church narthex from 9:30 a.m. until 10:20 a.m. before the service.  A private burial will follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens, Columbia, S.C. 29212.  Reverend Peter Sousa, C.Ss.R., will officiate.
