Patsy Rene Everage Hargrove, 88, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on April 10, 1935, to Yancy Marion Everage and Mollie Mae Brunson Everage. Patsy was the widow of Wilfred Nathaniel Hargrove, Sr. of Crestview, Florida. Patsy is survived by two daughters, Ramona Chitty (Stephen) and Donna Sholar (Duane), and her two sons, Nathaniel Hargrove (Wendy) and Roy Allan Hargrove (Valerie). She is survived by her 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, as well as her sister, Emma Jean Self (Sherrill). She was preceded in death by her husband Wilfred Hargrove, her parents and two sisters, Little Rea Weaver (Lyman) and Dot Gillis (Gene), and her brother Roy (Jean). There are numerous Everage and Hargrove nieces and nephews that loved their Aunt Pat. During Patsy’s first 30 years, she lived in the surrounding Andalusia, Birmingham, and Mobile, Alabama areas, and later in the Florida Panhandle. Patsy and her family made four major moves throughout her life, each time to be near family and leaving a long trail of many beloved friends. She was always active in the Assemblies of God churches wherever she lived. In Columbus, MS she worked various secretarial jobs, but most notably at Mississippi University for Women (“The W”). Upon returning to Mobile, AL to look after her mother, she continued her secretarial career working mainly for Cooper/T. Smith Stevedoring and the Mobile County public school system. In 1995 she moved to Lakeland, FL to be near family and worked at Southeastern University, and the Marriott Vacation Worldwide. In 2011 Patsy retired at age 76 and moved to Columbia, SC to be near her oldest daughter, and lived there until she went to her final home on January 5, 2024. A funeral service for Patsy will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Genesis Church in Highland City, FL. Visitation is at 12:30 p.m., with services at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Burial Park Cemetery in Lakeland where she will be laid to rest beside Wilfred.
