Patricia Neal Butts

Patricia “Patti” Neal Butts, 69, of West Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 after a long battle with breast cancer. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of Herman Neal and Norma Brown Neal. Patti was married for 48 years to Jeffery K. “Jeff” Butts. Patti was a graduate of A.C. Flora High School (Class of 1971). She was raised in Greene Street United Methodist Church where she found her strong faith. For her first job, Patti worked at Southern Bell as a telephone switchboard operator. As a young woman, she worked in banking and insurance, and in the mortgage business. She was a dedicated Army wife and worked in veterinarian offices on various bases throughout her career. Before she retired, she enjoyed working in real estate at Lake Wateree. Patti was very passionate about rescuing animals, especially dogs. Over the years, she rescued, fostered, and owned hundreds of dogs. She had the gift of gab and truly never met a stranger. She loved to make others laugh and feel loved. Patti would tell you her greatest joys were her best friend and husband, Jeff, her kids, and grandkids. You could usually find Patti working with Jeff in her garden, taking care of her beloved dogs, or planning her next beach trip to Edisto. In addition to her husband, Patti is survived by her son, Allen Butts (Desaree Festa-Butts) of Buffalo, New York, and her daughter, Natalie Butts-Ball (Eric Ball) of Newbern, Alabama. She is also survived by her brother, Tony Neal (Ann) of Lexington, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Oliver Ball, Juniper Ball, and Ronan Ball; and her loving family pets, Beaudrioux and Gracie. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
