Ola Chandler Swain

May 20, 1930 — March 25, 2023

Ola Chandler Swain, 92, of Chapin, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Born on May 20, 1930, in Burkeville, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Fred Chandler and Thelma Dobson Chandler. Ola was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Prosperity. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Ola grew up in Virginia and worked as the eldest of four siblings on the tobacco farm with her Parents and helped raise her sisters and brother. She later met Carroll while she was in Nursing school who soon after would become her Husband. Ola, also known as Chan, Mom, but mostly Gran Gran by her many Grandchildren and many others who really thought she was their Grandmother, was the local community babysitter. Above all things she was the role model of what Mother should be. Her faith was one of the first things you would see in her lifelong journey. Her zeal for sharing her belief in the Word of GOD, the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and what he did on the cross so that all that believe upon him shall have eternal life was her greatest attribute. Ola is survived by her sons, Mac Swain (Lois) and Micah (Laurie) and her son-in-law, Ernie King. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Justin (Aimee); Michael (Christy); Joshua; Ashley (Travis); Paisley (Jeff); Devin; Karli; Jessica; Kelley, Jason (Stephni); and her many great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, Ola was predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Carroll N. Swain; her son, James Swain; her daughter, Phyllis King; her sisters, Gladys C. Barden and Elsie C. Brown; and her brother, Roy Chandler. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Prosperity, 115 Wessinger Road, Prosperity, SC 29127. A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023.
