Noel Johnson Waldrop

July 9, 1935 — December 24, 2024

Ms. Noel Johnson Waldrop, 89, went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2024.

A Columbia native, Noel was born July 9, 1935, to Casey and Virginia Banks Johnson. She was a faithful member of Christian Life Church, where she also served as church administrator for over 30 years. Noel’s life was a testament to her deep devotion to the Lord and her dedication to her family. She impacted many lives with her testimony of God’s work in her own life. She was instrumental in many others coming to know the Lord.

Noel attended and graduated from Dreher High School in 1953, and during those years, she met lifelong friends, with whom she remained close for over seventy years. She is predeceased in death by her cherished friends Saundra Rhodes, Mary Mungo, and M.L. Bishop. She is survived by Peggy Riddle and Lessie Simmons.

Noel’s favorite place to be was in church, and she cultivated many beloved friendships that lasted over thirty years, including Betty Price, Becky Brown Erickson, Judy Risinger Skipper, Joyce Dickerson, and Carol Gosney.

Noel loved to dance, especially the “Carolina shag.” She enjoyed working in the yard, watching movies, playing board games, hosting and cooking for her family and friends. Above all, her greatest joy was her family and spending quality time with them.

Noel is survived by her two daughters, Sherri Murdock (Randy), Janice Shull (Wyman), and her son, Charles “Chad” Waldrop, Jr. (Connie); eleven grandchildren, Will Murdock Jr. (Brittany), Brittney Kerstan (Jacob), Austin Shull (Michelle), Morgan Lauster (Matt), Sydney Taske (Andrew), Chandler Cox (Braden), Cole Murdock (Taylor), Charles Waldrop III, Jake Shull (Rachel), Trent Shull (Lynsee), Cade Waldrop; six great grandchildren, and a brother, William “Mac” Johnson (Regina) and beloved nieces and nephews, Scottie, Ashley (Andy), Cullen and Banks.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the love and care shown to Noel by David and Justin Edwards and their incredible staff at Generations of Irmo, as well as the caring team at Three Oaks Hospice.
