Miriam Mulligan Skidmore of Irmo, SC passed away Wednesday afternoon. She was born in June in Charlotte, NC and was predeceased by her parents Edwin Lee and Juanita Smith Mulligan. Her husband of 57 years, Larry Skidmore, passed away just 3 short months ago. They spent a lifetime together, they raised 2 children, Lynn Skidmore of Greenville SC, and Bill (Meredith) Skidmore of Columbia SC.In addition to her children she is survived by grandsons, Matthew (Ashlin) Skidmore of Charlotte NC, and Adam (Lindsey) Skidmore of Columbia SC, her sister, Phyllis (Roy) Sweezy of Valdese, NC, and sister-in-law, Dee (Tom) Crayton of Charlotte NC, and many nieces and nephews. Mom was a bookkeeper throughout her career, working in various positions and industries, she retired from SC Dept of Corrections.Together with Dad, they opened and operated Candlelight Video in Lexington in the mid 1980’s, before cable! Her greatest joy was meeting and talking to people that came into the store. She often told me stories as if they were part of her family. And she loved it! Mom was a crafter.Always pursuing a new hobby.Ceramics, sewing, quilting, cross stitch and other needle works. She made many beautiful quilts and the house is full of her cross stitch pieces. She was also an avid reader, books filled our house and the library was always a great place to go. Dementia stole Mom’s mind several years ago, her spirit stayed with her.Her hospice care givers loved her. They often shared that she was stubborn when she didn’t want to do what they needed but more often she had them laughing. We cannot thank them enough for the care and love they showed both Mom and Dad. Memorials may be sent Heartstrings Hospice: 115 Blarney Dr., Suite 204, Columbia, SC 29223.
