Michael Stephen Counas

A memorial service for Michael Stephen Counas will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2020, at Melvin Park, 370 Eptings Camp Road, Chapin, S.C. 29036.The Reverend Stephen Taylor, Minister of Union United Methodist Church, will officiate. Michael was born on October 9, 1949, in Denver, Colorado and was the son of the late Theodore J Counas and Lucille Ellen Counas.Mr. Counas was a 1977 graduate of the University of South Carolina and retired from UPS after a career in advertising as a graphic artist.During his retirement, Michael thoroughly enjoyed serving his community as a recreational league coach. While coaching football, baseball, and basketball he was affectionately known as "Coach Mike." Outside of coaching, Michael was a member of the Mustang Club, an avid tennis player, and a talented graphic artist.Moreover, Michael was very active in the Parkland High School Alumni Class of 1967 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Mr. Counas is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Ann S. Counas; a daughter, Melissa Shupe, of Chapin, S.C.; four sons, Chris Counas of Winston-Salem, N.C., Chris Shupe (Kathy) of Las Vegas, N.V., Greg Shupe of Columbia, S.C., and Trysten Counas of Chapin, S.C.; and sister, Carol Counas of Lexington, S.C.Michael is survived by his five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two grand dogs.
