Mavis K. George

The funeral service for Mrs. Mavis Koon George, 95, of Columbia will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Salem United Methodist Church, 1321 Salem Church Road, Irmo, SC 29063. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Reverends Gary Phillips and BillChilds will officiate. The family will speak to friends following the service at the cemetery. Mavis was born in Irmo on December 4, 1925. She passed away at her residence on June 18, 2021, with her family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Matthew F. Koon and Eula Derrick Koon. Mavis was a longtime member of the Salem United Methodist Church, where she served as the church organist, member of the Lunch Bunch, and The Faith Circle. She enjoyed traveling as well as neighborhood gatherings. Surviving are her daughter, Sharon Hill (Michael) of Deland, FL; son, John H. George, Jr.(Eloise) of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Shannon Lam (Matt), Jonathan Hill, and Morgan Hill; great-grandchildren, Tristan Lam, Ella Grace Lam, and Bella Hill. Those who preceded her in death are her late husband, J. Harold George; brothers, Calvin L. Koon and Jackie "Boy" Koon; special friend, Elton "Mac" McWhorter. The George family is very grateful for the love, support, and assistance provided by JeanTimms, her caregiver for the past year along with her nieces and friends.
