Mary Jeanne Skidmore Holden VanHoeck was born on February 21, 1936, in Akron, Ohio. She was the daughter of Mary and Vertis Skidmore. Though Mother was born a Skidmore, she was part of the larger Mundy clan of Akron and Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. She spent her formative years growing up in her grandmother's home under the watchful eyes of her eight aunts and uncles. Mother is predeceased by her sister, Helen Dolores Underwood, and her brother, Charles Skidmore. Mother did not fear death as she was certain that she would see all the wonderful people she shared her life with when she got to heaven. Mother attended St. Vincent’s Elementary and High School in Akron, Ohio through the tenth grade. She then moved over to Coventry High School where she met Richard (Dick) Holden. Mom and Dad were married on September 13, 1958. Jeanne and Dick had four children, Mary Helen Yehl, Rick Holden, Janie Overman, and Patty Norem. They definitely had their problems, but our parents instilled in us a love for family. Their legacy has grown to include 20 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. On June 10, 1989, Mom married Stan VanHoeck. She and Stan enjoyed their early years together in Burlington, NC, and later they moved to Lake Murray in Prosperity, SC. They enjoyed their years on the water and in their backyard surrounded by their family. Mom and Stan shared a deep and abiding love, and he took wonderful care of mom as her health declined. Once they could no longer live at the lake, Mom and Stan moved to Wellmore of Lexington and then to The Lowman Home in Chapin, SC. We are grateful for the care that Mom received by both The Lowman Home and Lutheran Hospice. Outside of her family, Mother loved her Catholic faith and all things Irish. Mom was a great sports fan. She loved watching Notre Dame Football and Lady Gamecocks basketball. Mom loved talking about politics. She took great pride in her home and loved to decorate. Mom was an artist, and she spent many years enjoying her watercolors. Mother lived longer than almost any other person in her family, and we are grateful for the final years that we had with her as she mellowed. Mother will be missed by this new clan that is a growing group because of her.
