COLUMBIA—Mary Owen Fort, 92, of Columbia died Monday, November 30, 2015.She was the third child born to the late Thomas Marvin Owen and Mattie Riley Owen on February 22, 1923. Mary graduated from Columbia High School and the Columbia Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned a RN Degree in Nursing. Mary was a loving, caring and giving person and had many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. James Arthur Fort and a son, James A. Fort, Jr.; brother, T. M. Owen, killed in the battle of Okinawa in 1945 and John T. Owen. Mary is survivied by three sons, Thomas (Ina), Donald (Christina) and Billy (Kay) Fort; brother, Dr. James C. Owen of Florence, SC; sister, Thelma O. Hightower of West Columbia; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Betty Fort.Mary was a life member of College Place M.E. Church. Thank you for the special care given by Alizabeth Driggers and Leonard Brown over the past several years. A Memorial Service for Mary will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212 with Bishop Randy L. Caulder officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
