Mary Alice Ellis

COLUMBIA—A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Alice Ellis, 65, of Columbia, will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, September 29, 2014 at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, 120 Marydale Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.Father David R. Whitman will officiate.Inurnment will be held at Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, SC at a later date.The family will greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. prior to service in the Family Life Center of the church.Vigil Service will be at 3:30 PM in the church. Mrs. Ellis, beloved wife of 28 years to Billy Ellis, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Robert Mullikin, Jr. and Anne McQueen Knight Mullikin.Mary was a member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church. She spent her childhood years in Piedmont, SC and maintained connections with those friends to the present. She lived in Columbia all of her adult life. She graduated from USC in 1969. For many years she was a commercial lines underwriter with The Travelers and Tower Marketing. Currently she was Professional Development Administrator for the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of South Carolina.Mary was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club and an avid Carolina Gamecocks fan.Her biggest life achievement was being the mother to two wonderful loving children and was looking forward to meeting her new grandson. She will always be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, aunt, sister and friend. Surviving in addition to her husband, Billy Ellis;are daughter, Anne-Marie Suchomski (Steve) of Germany, son, John P. Ellis (Maggee) of Lexington; grandson, Sean Josef Suchomski of Germany, sister, Anne Knight Watson (Sam) of McClellanville and brother, John R. Mullikin III of Columbia.
