Mary Ellen Cordan, 92, long-time resident of Irmo, South Carolina, passed away on March 23, 2024, following a lengthy illness. She and her husband, John Cordan, were married for 72 years. Born September 2, 1931, in Beaver Falls, PA, Mary was the daughter of Forrest and Ellen Joy McDaniel. A graduate of Beaver Falls High School, Mary was a homemaker. She also worked as a substitute teacher for Charleston County School District. The Cordans moved to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, in the 1950’s and lived there for 50 years before moving to Carmel Commons in Irmo, South Carolina in 2001. She lived in Irmo for almost 20 years. Mrs. Cordan’s hobbies were house plants, bird watching, reading, and painting landscapes. She and John also enjoyed traveling on group bus tours throughout the United States and Canada. Mrs. Cordan is survived by her husband, John, of Lexington, SC; sons, James (Carol) of Chapin, SC, and Thomas (Sara) of West Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Andrew, Nick, and Zack; and great-grandchildren, Callan and Shaiah. She is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Forrest Melvin McDaniel of California and Carol Slima of Pennsylvania. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Columbia Presbyterian Community of Lexington at 700 DeVega Drive, Lexington, South Carolina at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. The Reverend Brooklyn Smith will officiate.
