Mary W. Chappell

The graveside service for Mary Whittle Chappell, 89, of Columbia will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022, in Bush River Memorial Gardens.The Chappell family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 p.m. at Temples Halloran Funeral Home.The Reverend Tim Hawkins of Riverland Hills Baptist Church will officiate. Mary was born in Batesburg, South Carolina on February 11, 1933, and departed this earthly life on April 1, 2022.She was the daughter of the late Clarence E. Whittle and Carrie Ouzts Whittle.Mary was a graduate of Ridge Spring-Monetta High School where she was Valedictorian and Majorette of her senior class. Mary met her late husband, Bill, when she began working at Southern Bell.She was formerly a member of St. James United Methodist Church and is currently a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church.Her hobbies included gardening, floral design, and interior decorating. Survivors include her daughter, Stacy E. Wood (Ron); son, William Terry Chappell (Marie); sister, Pauline Berry; grandchildren, Ashley Buchanan (Joshua Greer), Sarah N. Buchanan-Sasson (James), and David A. Buchanan (Ashley Marie); great-grandchildren, Bradley P. Buchanan, Ever Buchanan Greer, and Lily Harper Buchanan.Those who preceded her in death, besides her late parents were several of her siblings, and her husband, Bill. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
