Columbia-- Marvin Kimzy Burgess, 89, died on Friday, October 27, 2017 at home with family by his side. He was born May 13,1928 in Big Lick TN. Marvin was a BS graduate of Tennessee Tech with a Masters degree from Indiana University. He was employed with the US Dept of Agriculture for 35 years winning many awards including the National Award for Superior Service. He served in the Korean War and was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Columbia. Surviving are his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy Yowell Burgess, four children, Kim Burgess (Barbara) of Roanoke VA, Steve Burgess (Teresa) of McDonough, GA, Brent Burgess (Debbie) of Carrollton GA and Cindy Burgess McGougan (Joe) of Mt Pleasant SC; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, seven nieces and two nephews.He is predeceased by his parents Vance and Amy Burgess, five siblings, one niece and two nephews. A celebration of Marvin's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, 5400 Bush River Rd., Columbia, SC 29212. Visitation will be from 10 am-11:00 a.m.prior to the service at the funeral home. Military Honors will follow in Bush River Mausoleum.
