The funeral service for Martha Steadman Vansant will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 14, 2022, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 525 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, 29210. Reverend Gary Loadholt will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service in the church Narthex. Burial will be private. Martha was born July 4, 1924, in Inman, SC, and passed away peacefully with her family by her side on November 4, 2022, in Columbia, SC at the age of 98. She is preceded in death by her father, Rufus D. Steadman, and mother, Gertrude C. Steadman; husband, Carl J. Vansant; daughter, Karen V. Edwards; granddaughter, Mandy W. Melton, and 5 siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Marsha V. Wells; brother, James Steadman (Yvonne); son-in-law, Paul T. Edwards; grandson, Philip W. Wells (Belle); granddaughter, Jessica T. Edwards (Drew); three great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Martha, a child of the great depression, was the oldest of 7 siblings and grew up helping her family in any way she could. She married Carl, the love of her life, in 1951, and soon after they had 2 daughters. She was a secretary for Lexington/Richland District 5 for 12 years and worked in accounting for the Department of Juvenile Justice for 13 years. After retiring, she enjoyed volunteering at Sharing God’s Love and being an active member of the homemaker’s club. Martha enjoyed crafting, reading scripture, and above all else, She loved spending time with her family. She created a legacy of love and light in the lives of many.
