Chapin, South Carolina – Marion Levern Meetze, 91, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2025, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service.
A native of Columbia, Marion was born on July 26, 1933, to the late Vern Smith and Annie Mae Weed Meetze. He was a graduate of Irmo High School and proudly served his country in the South Carolina Air Force Reserve at McEntire Air Base. He was a Mason and a member of the Jamil Shrine Temple. Marion retired from Western Electric as the Orbit Supervisor for South Carolina after twenty-eight years of service.
Marion believed in working hard, taking responsibility, and earning your own way in the world—values evident from his first paid job as a young paperboy. He delivered his evening route on foot after school until he had saved enough money to buy his first bicycle. With that, he was able to take on a larger route, delivering newspapers in the early morning before school each day.
Over the years, he enjoyed many hobbies. He was an avid coin collector and a self-taught computer expert, having even built one of his own computers. He loved camping, tending to his rose garden, birdwatching, and feeding the many birds that frequented his feeders. In his later years, he especially enjoyed watching beautiful lake sunsets with his beloved wife.
In addition to his parents, Marion was predeceased by his brother, James Herbert Meetze; and two sons-in-law, John Andrew Meetze Jr. and Kerry D. Davidson. He is survived by his loving wife of seventy-one years, Faye Rhoden Meetze; daughters, Donna M. Faircloth (Ronnie) of Chapin and Joye M. Davidson of West Columbia; and his son, Marion Michael Meetze (Nancy) of Youngstown, Ohio. He is also survived by six grandchildren: John Andrew Meetze III (Kim), Brandy F. Kaiser (Kevin), Christy M. Jeffcoat (Wayne), Melissa M. Hill (Travis), Nikki Meetze, and Hillary M. Campbell (Ethan); Donny Davidson; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Marion is, and will continue to be, deeply missed by all who love him. The family would like to thank MSA Hospice and their staff for their compassionate support and care.
Temples-Halloran Funeral Home proudly assists the Meetze family in their time of grief.
