COLUMBIA—Marion Elizabeth Thompson Altman, 96, of Columbia died Saturday, December 24, 2016.Born in Timmonsville, SC, she was the eldest daughter of the late Marion Edings Bailey and William Eugene Thompson.She attended Winthrop College and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, the Columbia Garden Club-Lifetime Emeritus, the Wade Hampton Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a member and former Regent of the Columbia Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a founding member of the Historic Columbia Foundation, and a Life Member of the Caroliniana Society. Surviving from her marriage to the late Andrew Lyman Hall are daughter, Elizabeth Hall (Mrs. Robert A.) Darr of Homosassa, FL; and son, Richard Barry Hall of Portland, ME.She is also survived by three stepdaughters: Tabitha Yothers ofFalls Church, VA; Barbara (Mrs. Karl D.) Chandler of Fremont, CA; and Margaret (Mrs. Robert A.) Rankin of Rolling Hills Estates, CA.She is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Marion was predeceased by son, Andrew Lyman Hall, Jr. of Columbia; stepson, Davis J. Altman of Atlanta; sisters Catherine (Mrs. Robert F.) Lawson of Detroit, Sarah (Mrs. Jack) Rachlin of Hilton Head; and by her husband, Col. James E. Altman (USAF Retired) of Columbia. The family expresses their appreciation to all her caregivers during her extended stay at Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community. A graveside service will be conducted in the First Presbyterian Church churchyard at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016.The service will be officiated by the Reverend David Lauten.Following the service the family will receive friends in the atrium of Jackson Hall.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Deacons Fund at First Presbyterian Church of Columbia, 1324 Marion Street, Columbia, SC 29201, or to the charity of your choice.
