Marie Wilkerson Nelson

COLUMBIA— On a beautiful evening, May 23, 2015, Marie Wilkerson Nelson went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ.She was born January 10, 1928, in Durham, North Carolina. Marie was the daughter of the late Joseph Lawrence and Nellie Clark Wilkerson and the wife of the late Al Watson Nelson for 58 years. She was a charter member of St Andrews Presbyterian Church, a member of the Christian Women’s Club, and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Marie was an excellent seamstress, making clothes and beautiful quilts. Marie and Al loved to travel and especially enjoyed cruises. She was an avid golfer and bridge player for many years. Marie worked part time at JB Whites and was known at Gold Gym as ‘grooving granny’. She is survived by her three daughters, Linda Nelson Davis (Robbie) of Columbia, Susan Nelson Dox (Allan) of Irmo, and Cathy Nelson Raddatz of Irmo; six grandchildren, Kelly Sawyer (Todd), Steven Davis (Erica), Adam Dox (Courtney), Justin Dox, Rachel Barclay (Web), Caitlin Raddatz; four great granddaughters, Ella Davis, Eleese Sawyer, Addy Lane Dox, and Sadie Dox; sister-in-law, Zada Lee Nelson; nephew, Bill Kirkland (Ann);nieces, Pam Nelson Wheeler (Doug) and Peggy Nelson. Marie was predeceased by her sister, Helon Wilkerson Kirkland and cousins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6952 St. Andrews Rd, Columbia SC 29212, with entombment to follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Dr. Dale Weldon will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on May 25, 2015, at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Rd, Columbia SC 29212. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6952 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29212 The family wishes to especially thank all the loving care shown by friend and neighbor Jerry St. John, the staff of Harbor Chase of Columbia, and Agape Hospice House.
