COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Margaret Bratton Hartis, 90, of Columbia, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Ashland United Methodist Church, 2600 Ashland Road, Columbia, SC 29210.Reverend Michael Bruce, Reverend Jim Nates and Reverend Robert “Bob” Borom will officiate.Burial will follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2014 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Mrs. Hartis, widow of the late, Charles J. Hartis, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2014. Born in Rock Hill, SC, she was the daughter of the later of Elmer Bratton and Ola Jane Montgomery Bratton.She was a charter member of Ashland United Methodist Church where she devoted much of her time and talents. Margaret was a member of the Fellowship Bible Class and Harmon Circle; she was also one of the founding members of the Shepherd Center of St. Andrews.She had worked at Sears Department Store for 15 years and later as a consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics.She was awarded as a younger lady from the music department of Winthrop College, a special certificate for her outstanding vocal performance in the “Girl’s Sextette”.Margaret will be deeply missed by all who knew her as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother.Some of Margaret’s hobbies included gardening, bird watching, playing her piano while singing, playing bridge as well as cooking. Surviving are daughters, Rosemary Hartis of Columbia, Charlotte Hartis of Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Jennie Mahaffey of Newberry; grandchildren, Laura F. Mear, Russell E. Fore, Clint J. Fore, Baron Johnson, Derek Johnson, Chris Rentz, Jeremy Fore, and; 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Ashland United Methodist Church, 2600 Ashland Road, Columbia, SC 29210 and the Heritage at the Lowman Home, 201 Fortress Drive, Chapin, SC 29036.
