Mafalda Torres

Mafalda Torres, 93, of West Columbia, SC, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday morning, March 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 9, 1931, in Ponta Grossa, Brazil,  the daughter of Emma Tallevi and Durval Rodrigues. She was a woman of remarkable strength, humor, and unwavering love for her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Mafalda's greatest joy came from caring for those she loved.

Mafalda had a no-nonsense personality paired with a loving and giving heart. She had a gift for making people feel cared for—whether through her delicious home-cooked meals, her handmade knitted and crocheted creations, or the simple, steadfast presence she offered to everyone around her. Her family fondly remembers how she delighted in making scarves, hats, booties, and beautiful doilies for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each piece stitched with love.

Her passions included cooking, knitting, crocheting, and caring for her beloved pets, especially her ferrets and cats. She also enjoyed her Spanish soap operas and famously loved her naps, always saying how much she loved to sleep.

Mafalda was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Above all, she was a woman who loved fiercely and lived life on her own terms. She will be remembered for her humor, strength, and the deep love she had for her family.

She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 47 years, Gustavo Torres, who passed away in December 2020. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and many cherished family members.

Left to cherish her memory are her brothers and sisters, her two daughters, eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Her love and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

A gathering of family and friends will be held to celebrate Mafalda's life on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Temples-Halloran Funeral Home.
