Lynne S. Poole

COLUMBIA – Kathryn “Lynne” Poole was welcomed into the loving arms of her Savior, Friday, December 21, 2018. Born May 4, 1946, in Charleston, SC, she was the daughter of the late Michael P. Stroman and Hazel Hoffman Stroman. Lynne graduated from Swansea High School and the University of South Carolina.At the University of South Carolina, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education, as well as a Masters Degree in Education, and completed her Ed.S in Guidance Counseling. She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Irmo, where she served as Sunday school teacher, volunteered in the church office, and in membership and leadership roles on many committees and groups.Lynne had a gift for teaching. During her 30-year public school education career, she taught in both Aiken and Lexington Counties. Leaphart Elementary School is where she taught the majority of her career up to retirement.Lynne positively impacted the lives of countless children as well as adults, through teaching in the school system, Sunday School and After-School programs.She loved to travel, read, play the piano, and spend time with her family. Lynne had a sly sense of humor that brought joy to those around her.She shared the love of Jesus through her daily actions.Lynne was a loving and caring daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother.Her family was always first and foremost in her life even during her last days.She always loved children and when her grandsons were born they held a special place in her heart. Lynne is survived by her faithful husband of 50 years, Elzy A. Poole, Jr.; daughter, Kim Poole Bristow (Chris); grandsons, Hunter and Jordan Bristow; brother, Ralph Stroman; niece, Laura Lee (Sean). The visitation will be held at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2018. The service to Celebrate the Life of Lynne Poole will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Irmo, 7068 Nursery Road, Columbia, SC 29212 with Dr. Clark McCrary and Dr. Bill Messer officiating. A graveside ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m., December 27, 2018, in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, 1477 W. F. Jeffcoat Road, Gaston, SC 29053. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Irmo, 7068 Nursery Road, Columbia, SC 29212 or Leeza’s Care Connections, 201 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29219.
