Lynn H. Reiland

Lynn Henry Reiland, age 82, of Irmo, SC passed away peacefully on November 6, 2023. Born, April 6, 1941, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the only son of the late Clara Elizabeth (Drusbasky) and steelworker Paul William Reiland. On April 28, 1962, Lynn married his devoted wife Patricia (Pat) Mary Schutzman and for over 61 years they built a wonderful family together. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Lynn worked at Westinghouse Electric Company for 32 years. Lynn excelled at fixing things around the house and the family’s cars. His hobbies included woodworking, photography, model trains, and listening to instrumental music. Until his last days, he had a wonderful memory, and the stories of his childhood, work projects, colleagues, and family members illustrated his attention to detail and his keen observation and enjoyment of others. Despite being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in his fifties, Lynn managed to always find things to interest him and, with the dedicated assistance of Pat, persevered despite many physical hardships. A long-time parishioner of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, Lynn is survived by his wife Patricia, sons Paul Gregory Reiland (Tracye), Douglas Paul Reiland (Amy), and daughter Kimberly Ann Yellman (Gregory). He is preceded in death by his son Jeffrey John Reiland, grandson John Henry Reiland, and his parents Clara and Paul Reiland. Truly his grandchildren and the arrival of his great-grandchildren were Lynn’s greatest source of delight. He sang the praises and was very supportive of the achievements and adventures of his eight grandchildren: Jonathan Morgan Reiland (Lindsey), Taylor Marie (Yellman) Mitchell (Connor), Douglas Williams Reiland, Alison Nicole Yellman, Brendan James Reiland, Emily Elizabeth Reiland, Jessica Anne Yellman, and Matthew Thomas Reiland; and his three great-grandchildren: Anna Sophia Reiland, Jackson Keller Mitchell, and Jeffrey Paul Reiland. A Mass of Christian Burial for Lynn Henry Reiland will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023, at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, 120 Marydale Land, Columbia, SC 29210. The family will receive friends in the church narthex from 9:00 - 9:50 a.m. Inurnment will follow the service at Bush River Memorial Gardens.
