Lisa Church Hutchinson

March 4, 1963 — January 30, 2024

Lisa Church Hutchinson, 60, passed away January 30, 2024, following an extended illness, which she handled just like she lived her life, with courage, dignity, grace, and faith. Lisa was born March 4, 1963, in Ashland, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her father and mother in-law Curtis & Marie Hutchinson. She is survived by her parents Don & Cynthia Church of Irmo, South Carolina, husband of 39 years Curtis Hutchinson, Jr of Irmo, South Carolina and sons Jacob Hutchinson (Lindsey) of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Joshua Hutchinson (Jordi Lee) of Memphis, Tennessee, and the joy of her life, 3- year-old grandson Duke Hutchinson, who affectionately calls her “Hunny”, of Greensboro, North Carolina and sister Dana Carnaggio of Irmo, South Carolina, brother and sister in-law, Ken Hutchinson (Amy) of Spartanburg, South Carolina and adored nephews Justin Hutchinson (Erin) of Orlando, Florida and Gavin Carnaggio of Irmo, South Carolina. Lisa graduated from Russell High School and still maintains a close relationship with many of her classmates. She attended the University of Kentucky and graduated from Morehead State University where she obtained a B.B.A degree in Accounting in 1985. Following graduation, she was employed by Palmetto GBA and retired in 2020 as the Manager of CFO Reporting. She had over 35 years of service. While there, she made many lifelong friends and enriched the lives of all that she worked with. Faith was important to Lisa her entire life. She became a Christian in Russell Kentucky in 1970 and lived her faith her entire life. Even as a young girl in grade school and someone did something she thought they shouldn’t have, she would say “And I’ll be praying for you”, and she did. She and Curtis moved to South Carolina in 1985 and joined Riverland Hills Baptist Church in 1988, where she was an active member. Lisa will be remembered as a cherished wife, amazing mother, a proud Hunny, a caring daughter, a cherished big sister, loving aunt and beloved by a multitude of friends. Lisa was the glue bonding her family and friends together. She was the persona of Proverbs 31:10-31. Lisa was a true gift to all that met her. She was smart, witty, compassionate, kind, thoughtful, giving and a loyal friend and mentor; truly a person that found the best in everyone. She always enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether traveling to Kentucky for visits, tailgating at Clemson football games, trips to the mountains or her time with the Beach girls, she would always make the time special. Lisa was famous for her mystery trips with her sons and nephew; each outing was always a surprise that was well planned and a meaningful memory. Lisa’s boys meant the world to her, all her time and efforts revolved around them and their activities. She made her house a home and a place of unconditional love, warmth and understanding, so that anyone who came would feel comfort and peace. She wanted everyone to relax from their day, slow down and feel at home and welcome. She was truly glad you were there. Lisa brought out the best side of people. Lisa loved family beach vacations every year. She loved games, and while on the trips, there were always daily games she had planned out for family and friends to play. There was a running card game the entire time that was always very competitive. All holidays were big events and a reason to celebrate and get together with family and friends, but it was important for her to come up with at least 1 new game for all to play, regardless of how hard the rules were to follow. She wanted everyone to be happy and celebrate the time together and Life itself. There was always a lot of humor, pranks, and laughter anytime you were around her. She brought out the best in all of us. Most of all, Lisa loved being “Hunny” to Duke. She would have special gifts for him, activities for them to do, meals and snacks to enjoy, and of course, baking. Duke continues to be the Muffin man from their fun times baking blueberry muffins. Lisa lived her life much like the lyrics of the Billy Dean song, We’re Only Here for a Little While – “Hold who needs holding, mend what needs mending, walk what needs walking, though it means an extra mile, pray what needs praying, say what needs saying, cause we’re only here for a little while”. Lisa would want each of you to hug your family and friends often and remember: It truly Is a Wonderful Life (which of course was her favorite movie). A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Irmo, South Carolina with Reverend Bill Haselden officiating on Friday, February 16th at 11:00. Following the service, there will be a reception in the atrium of Riverland Hills, followed by burial at Bush River Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to your local church in her name. She truly was our Leader of the Band and will be missed.
